Episode Fifty-nine of Lilith's Escape

“The king of England and his people have fought the Illuminati tooth and nail. You might not recognize London because of the bombings, but the king has kept his people free.” Scouter’s revelation lifted the weight that was hanging over Edward ever since he arrived in this time and place.

“First good news I’ve had since arriving here. Is England the only place to survive?”

“Israel, Germany, the northern part of France, the Swiss, parts of Canada, and here in our country, several Native American tribes who have formed a resistance group at the Bitterroot Mountains,” Scouter replied.

“We’re ready, move it guys,” Rita, interrupted their conversation as she entered the area.

“Will you be okay?” Edward asked Rita.

“We’ll soon find out,” she bravely replied, but her expression told him otherwise.

After Edward, Scouter and Rita joined the others, Tzaddik gave the signal and the trek to a new location begun. Fear hung heavy in the air, and even the children were unusually silent. The plan was to move underground, using the subway system until they would eventually come above ground. The destination was a museum which was located in the southern part of Philadelphia, in a park known as the ‘Lakes’.

Episode Fifty-eight of Lilith's Escape

Back inside the underground hide away, below the subway station, the evacuation was in full swing. Bradley, Tzaddik and the other marines were packing up the weapons, ammo, and what little food supply was left. Rita, Lilith, Jones and the older children took care of preparing the children, while Scouter and Edward packed up the maps and two short wave radios.

“Are there other resistance groups in this city,” Edward asked Scouter.

“Yes, four in this city…in fact, we’re going…” Scouter was interrupted by a little girl, who had wrapped her arms around his legs.

“Outer…are you coming with us?’

“Hey, little bit.” Scouter picked the toddler up and threw her up into the air. “Yes, we’re all going.” The child was so painfully thin, but her eyes were bright and her laughter, infectious.

“So what’s your name?” Edward asked the girl.

“I’m three.”

“We nicknamed her ‘little bit’, now say hello to Edward,” Scouter urged the child who was now playing shy.

“Hello…” she said and then hid her face against Scouter’s neck.

“Are her …?” Edward was about to ask, but Scouter shook his head.

“Little bit, we need to finish packing. I’ll come for you, later.” Scouter placed the child on the ground and off she went.

Edward waited until the child was out of earshot and said, “Are her parents dead?”

“The Illuminati have their own soldiers, mercenaries who gathered up the people in each city, to be used as slaves for the new order.”

“Even the children?” Edward asked.

They placed the children into retraining camps…that’s what they’re calling them, but it is brainwashing, plain and simple.”

“But, the children here; how did you save them?” Edward asked.

“We were able to save some, by ambushing the trucks as they were being moved to the camps. But,  ‘little bit’, we found at a nearby wildlife preserve.” Scouter replied, and then quickly glanced at the door.

“What happened?”

“She was sitting next to her older brother; he was dead.”

“What about my country? Were my people enslaved?”

Episode Fifty-four of Lilith's Escape

Rita needn’t worry about Edward. He already had the pleasure of meeting a zombie, and that was one experience that he wouldn’t forget anytime soon. When Edward arrived at the outer barricade, he was surprised to find that many of the zombies had climbed over the chain fence. Tzaddik, along with the two soldiers Bradley and Jones were doing their best to control the invasion, by making sure that every shot counted, but there were just too many of them.

“I thought there were only a handful of these buggers,” Edward said as he moved up to the others and began shooting. “There has to be over a hundred.”

“It’s spreading faster than we anticipated,” Bradley replied and then aimed his gun at Edward.

Edward was about to disarm the soldier in front of him, but Bradley shot first. Something fell at his feet; it was a young female, maybe around seventeen, but no more than that. Her eyes were open, her mouth still moving as she tried to grab hold of Edward’s ankle. He didn’t like shooting children, but there was no hope for her. He leveled his gun, took aim and put the poor creature out of her misery. “Thanks mate,” he called out to Bradley.

The zombies kept coming, no matter how many they managed to kill, they just kept coming. “Where’s Lilith,” he asked, but everyone was too busy trying to keep the zombies from getting inside to the children.

At one point in the battle, Edward got a glimpse of Lilith. She was right in the thick of the battle, wielding her sword which such speed, that the zombies were piling up around her feet. Her clothing covered in their blood.

“We won’t be able to fight off another attack like this,” Tzaddik said as he moved in next to Edward, shooting at the dead while he spoke. “Without her dragon, we’re outnumbered.”

Edward considered their present situation and felt that Tzaddik had a good point, because the dead just kept coming.

Part Twenty-one of Lilith's Escape

Edward placed the unconscious Lilith on his bed and rolled her over to her side to check for the source of bleeding. He lowered the linen dress from her shoulders to find the wound, which was located on her lower back.

It was a deep cut and looked like it was made by a double edge blade.

“Lilith, wake up,” Edward patted her cheeks in an attempt to bring her around, but she did not respond. He hurried to the bath and grabbed a few towels to apply pressure to the wound. She was losing a lot of blood.

“Lilith, you need to open your eyes,” Edward ordered, but to no avail. Her breathing was shallow and her pupils were dilated.

He would need to call for help, but was it safe to do so? If someone was tracking her, bringing her to a hospital would make her vulnerable to another attack. He had to do something, but what? She was immortal, how could she be injured and better yet, how could he help her?

She let out a long gasp and the sound of it, made him freeze. He heard that sound many times before in his work and usually it was a direct result of his permanently disposing of an enemy. She was dying.

“Lilith, please,” Edward shouted as he felt for her pulse. She had none and Edward began to puff air into her lungs,

but when she did not respond to this, he gave a quick punch to her chest. Her eyes opened wide as she took in a deep breath. “I thought I had lost you,” he had begun to say, but her scream stopped him cold.

“They’re coming,” she warned and then disappeared, taking Edward with her.

Edward found himself sitting on a hard stone floor inside of a large room. There was a huge fireplace to the one side of the room and a balcony to the other. The walls were covered in white drapes, which glittered from the light of the setting sun. The room was empty of any furniture, except for the large bed against the far wall.

“Where the hell, are we?” he asked the woman cradled in his arms, but if he was expecting an answer, he would have to wait for she had passed out again.

Part Twenty of Lilith's Escape

“Did he bite you?” Lilith repeated.

Edward kept his gun aimed at her, watching as she pushed back her hood to reveal her face. “No,” he replied.

“Good or I would have been forced to kill you.”

“Stay where you are,” Edward ordered, as Lilith moved towards him, but she ignored his command and the gun pointed at her.

“Would you really shoot me?” she asked.

Edward stood motionless as she reached out and moved the gun away from her chest. With his gun out of her way, she stood on her toes and kissed him gently on the lips.

“What is he?” Edward asked when Lilith removed her lips from his. It took all his control to keep his arms by his side, his desire for her too strong to ignore.

“He is what I’m trying to prevent from happening in the future. This is a genetically engineered zombie and he was sent here to kill you.”

Edward’s glance went to the dead man and then back to the woman before him. “What are you and what does this have to do with the man I’m looking for?”

She let out a sigh. “Let me remove this, before I explain,” she said pointing to the dead man lying at their feet.

Edward watched as she slid her sword from its leather scabbard and touched the body. There was a flash of light so bright that Edward was forced to shield his eyes with his good arm.

When he lowered his arm he saw that the zombie was gone. The bloods stains on the rug were the only proof of the ungodly visitor.

After sheathing her sword, Lilith removed her cloak and let it fall to the floor. She undid her armor and dropped it next to her cloak, but as she did so, she winced. Dressed only in a flimsy linen drape, she placed her arms around his waist and her head against his chest.

Edward kept his arms at his side and a tight grip on the gun while trying to fight the urge to take her into his embrace.

“What are you?”

She kept her face hidden at his chest. “I’m an immortal. Hold me Edward.”

“Are you a god?” he asked and nudged her away from his body in order to look into her eyes.

“No...but I was  designed by one.”

Edward felt the bitter taste of bile work its way up his throat. “Are you the first wife of Adam?”

“I am that woman, but I was never his wife.”

“Then you’re a demon,” he replied .

“I’m no demon.” She tried to move back into his arms.

“Then, what are you?” Edward asked as he took a step back from her.

“I am a planet seeder, created way before man evolved to take his place on earth.”

He tightened his grip on the trigger; his fear of her was stronger than that of the zombie.

“Go on,” he urged her.

“I was sent to the earth man, to increase the survival rate of future generations” she replied softly.

“But, that didn’t happen,” he countered.

“I fell in love with another and would not stay with the man.”

The sound of loud thumping filled the room and at first Edward was unable to identify the source. His heart was beating so fast that he felt light headed, but he needed to know more.

“So you ran away?”

“Yes, I'm so cold, please hold me," she pleaded, but when Edward made no move to embrace her, she continued speaking,. "Another was formed to take my place, but she was unable to stop the man from joining forces with the enemy.”

“Who is creating the zombies?” he asked.

“Hold me in your arms and I will tell you everything.” She raised her hand and touched his cheek.

All thoughts of the past few days seemed to fade away as he looked into eyes. She was telling the truth, but how he knew this as fact, he couldn’t say.

“Hold me, Edward. I’m so very cold,” she pleaded, but in a weaker tone.

He took her into his arms and held her tight. He was surprised at how cold her skin felt. “Who is this man you have me searching for?”

There were was no reply. She had gone limp in his arms and when he tried to lift her, he noticed the blood on his hand.

Part Seventeen of Lilith's Escape

Edward held the glass so tightly in his hand that he was surprised it didn’t break. Did he hear his partner right? James had met Lilith while dead?

“Do you want to hear the story?” James asked Edward.

“I need some more of the vodka, before you begin.”

After James had filled both glasses, he began his tale. “I felt my soul leave my body, actually felt it tear away from my flesh. I was dead and not looking forward to what awaited me.”

Edward understood what James feared the most. He and James had killed their share of public enemies in the name of national security for Queen and Country, but it was still the taking of a life. “So, what happened?” he asked James.

“This hellish nightmare entity came from nowhere and moved quickly towards me. It was horrible to look upon and if this wasn’t an emissary from hell then I don’t know what is.”

James emptied his glass and refilled it before continuing. “She appeared from out of the blue and blocked the demon from touching me.”

“She, do you mean Lilith?” Edward asked.

James nodded.

“Go on,” Edward urged.

“The demon seemed to fear her. This wisp of a woman, dressed as a warrior, had a demon cowering in the corner.

After the demon disappeared, Lilith gave me her price for saving my soul. I had to obey or the creature would come back for me.”

Edward put out his glass for James to refill and after he took a sip, he asked, “What was her price?”

“It was you.”

“What the hell are you saying?” Edward stood up, his fist clenched.

“Wait, I had to obey. If you would have seen the demon, you would understand the situation I was in.”

Edward wanted to hit James, hurt him, but his curiosity got the better of him and he asked, “Why me?”

“You’re the only one she’ll trust to help stop what’s coming,” James explained.

“What’s coming?” Edward really didn’t want to know.

“The apocalypse,” James replied and then poured more vodka into his glass.

“Are you talking about the four horsemen? It’s only a tale made up by organized religion to control the masses,” Edward chided his friend.

“You mean like time travel is only possible in a science fiction book?” James retorted.

Edward was torn between his need to punch something, anything and his need to see her again.

“When exactly is this apocalypse supposed to happen and what does it have to do with Lawrence Levi?”

Part Sixteen of Lilith's Escape

Edward was able to flag down a cabbie and after he climbed into the back of the cab, gave the address to the driver. Instead of going home, he decided to visit his old partner.

James Powell was a former agent for England’s military intelligence. He had received a crippling injury a few years back while working for MI6, but although this injury prevented him from doing active duty, he still did some odd jobs when required.

After Edward paid the cabbie, he rang the bell for the occupant of the first floor apartment. “Yes?” the voice inquired.

“Mouse, it’s me. We need to talk,” Edward said into the intercom. Edward heard the click which signaled the release of the lock and he opened the door. After entering the hallway, he knocked on the apartment door of his friend.

“Give me a sec, mate,” James called out. Edward heard the smooth motor sound of the chair as it moved closer to the door. “I’ve been expecting you,” James said as he moved back to allow Edward to enter the room.

“How are you feeling?” Edward asked as he took James’s hand in his. Although sentenced forever to a wheelchair, James who was over six foot four still exhibited a commanding presence. James had lost the use of his legs on a job he and Edward were assigned to.

They had walked into a trap with James getting the worst of the explosion.

He would have died if Edward wasn’t there that day. Edward still carried the scars from the severe burns to his back, but he pulled his partner to safety before the building collapsed on the two of them.

“I’m alive and kicking,” James teased, but when Edward didn’t respond with his usual smile, he added, “Let’s have a drink.” After James got the vodka and glasses from the desk, he asked, “Is this about our little lady?”

Edward downed the drink and it burned all the way down, but in a good way. “How did you meet her?”

James downed his own drink and then filled both glasses to the rim. “Drink that one down before I tell you,” he instructed Edward.

“Tell me,” Edward urged after drinking the contents.

“You know that while they were working on me in the hospital, my heart stopped.”

“Yeah, I know.”

James nodded before adding, “I met her while I was dead.
