Wonderland or How I Lost a Tooth and Found Ghosts

                                            Me                        Rita                          Jean

Yes, my little zombie snacks, I’m back! And, boy do I have some stories to tell. My fellow desperados and I headed out to do some sightseeing in the beautiful and historic states of North and South Carolina. Our plans were to tour a few plantations and mansions and to also get in some ghost hunting.

We left early Friday morning, all three of us with all our luggage; it was a long ride, but by nine o’clock that night we had reached Wilmington, North Carolina. Our room had a balcony and a grand view of the battleship USS North Carolina.

Jean and I in our room
On Saturday morning, we visited the USS North Carolina, and learned about the brave men who served on this mighty ship during the war.

Later, we went on a carriage ride

Then we climbed into Jean's van for the very long ride to Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. It took us over 12 hours to get to our destination. We had taken a few wrong turns. Why? I was in charge of the map.
Thank goodness, the hotel we booked had a steady flow of coffee, day and night.

After a good night's rest, we headed out to the Boone Hall Plantation

They have some very impressive oak trees

The next day, we headed over to the Magnolia Plantation. Charleston South Carolina is so beautiful. The plantation's gardens reminded me of Alice in Wonderland, and the moss hanging from the trees added to the fantasy. Magnolia plantation even had a zoo and I made friends with a deer.

The whole Charleston area is beautiful, and I love the buildings; reminds me of New Orleans.

Then the trouble began: I got sick with an ear and sinus infection and then broke a tooth. But after getting antibiotics into my system and a new ceramic tooth at the Pleasant Family Dentist Center, I was back to my old trouble-making self. The wonderful dental staff even gave me a present.

My fever down and my tooth fixed, I had the strength to do some serious ghost hunting. We were not disappointed, and had two confirmed sightings, but that part of my trip is for another blog. My friends wanted to do a Segway tour of the Village in Mt. Pleasant, but, I was nervous as I'm very uncoordinated.  I did warn the instructor that I was an accident waiting to happen. "How bad could you be?" he asked.

He soon realized just how bad I could be when he had to rescue me several times from oncoming traffic. But, I was happy because I did something that I was hesitant to try and I'll be looking to try this again, maybe on one of the Philadelphia tours. Watch out Philly; I'm on the way.

All in all, this was an amazingly fun and exciting trip and I didn't get eaten by alligators.

  1. Love the Carolinas! Can't wait to read about your Ghost stories! I'm heading out to Western North Carolina next month, but no ghost hunting.

    1. Thank you, Joanne. I was very impressed with the beauty of the area and the friendliness of the southern people. The dentist is still sending me little get well cards.

  2. The photo of the twisted tree is amazing! It looks like something out of Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow. I'll bet it's a great site during Halloween, fur sure!
