Finally a Picture!!

Rct. James Reid III, Platoon 3018, Kilo Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, holds up barbed wire so his fellow recruits can crawl under Feb. 21, 2014, on Parris Island, S.C. The course is part of Basic Warrior Training, held during the ninth week of boot camp, which focuses on basic field-related skills all Marines must know. The basic combat training recruits receive while on Parris Island will be broadened after boot camp at follow-on training in Camp Lejeune, N.C. Reid, 19, from Sewell, N.J., is scheduled to graduate March 14, 2014. (Photo by Cpl. Caitlin Brink)

My family and I have been searching for pictures of my grandson Jimmy ever since he left for boot camp in December. Jimmy Reid is the oldest son of my daughter Rere and her husband Jim. Jimmy joined the United States Marines. What is really interesting is that there are sites the parents are encouraged to join that gives up to date information on what your child is experiencing each week. One of the sites that I go on daily is the Kilo Company Facebook page, where several angels (other marine moms) share photos and information as they come in. Thank you Tammy Opel, Michele Breland Gauthreaux and Libia Salazar

We would check the Kilo Company Facebook site several times a day with hopes of catching site of Jimmy, but with the all the recruits’ hair cut short and their caps pulled low over their eyes, it was damn near impossible to identify Jimmy out of the crowd.

Every once in a while, Rere would find a picture that looked like Jimmy, but we were never sure if it was really him. It was driving us crazy as we tortured others in the family to look at one or another picture to judge if we had found one of Jimmy.

Today, thanks to Michele, we have a picture of Jimmy and let me tell you, the family has finally agreed that it’s really him. Plus, his Aunt Denise who is a Dental hygienist recognizes his teeth. Well there is also the above article with his name and all. My grandson is doing what he was born to do and I’m very proud of him and my daughter and her husband for raising such a brave boy.

We All Need a Good Laugh

My grandsons love to show me stuff on the internet. This site is called "Just for Laughs" and I thought that you would enjoy watching this. There are several in a row, but they’re quick and they’re funny.

Birthdays and grandsons

All three of my daughter’s sons were born in June. I wanted to do something special for them and asked them for suggestions.

After vetoing the first three,
No! I can't walk and chew gum
                                           No! and don't ask again.

                                               Hell no!
we settled on a day in Philly, but we had to hold off on the trip because I was busy getting things ready for my trip to California.

Jimmy has a job now, so he was unable to spend the day out with us and I missed his editorial comments on the trip.

Josh and Nathan love going to China town

and especially to their favorite restaurant, the Empress Garden.

We had a fine lunch and then headed over to the Philadelphia Visitor’s Center to purchase tickets.

The boys wanted to ride on a double decker bus and take a tour of the city. I’ve never done this, so we were all excited to try it out. We chose the Big Bus.

Here we are before the bus starts the tour.

It was a very hot day so we didn’t look as perky at the end of the ride,

but… the tour guide knew his stuff and we did enjoy the tour.

And we may have even spotted Elvis!

We took the train back to Jersey and met my husband at the Pop Shop.

 Best place for Ice Cream.

After the ice cream, we went to see a movie, which I wasn’t so sure that I wanted to see because it was yet another movie about Spiderman. How many ways can you see Spiderman before you get bored?

I was pleasantly surprised at how good it turned out to be.

Next week, I’ll be going to Laurel Hill Cemetery

to do a little ghost hunting
                                                         Ghosts Among Our Graves:
Paranormal Investigation of Laurel Hill Cemetery
Saturday, July 21, 8:00pm

and I’m sure that I’ll have some great pictures to share with you on my next blog.

Have a great weekend and a productive week.

Another Great Weekend

I had two of the grandsons sleep over on Saturday after we saw the movie, Hunger Games. It was great and it lived up to the five star reviews it has been receiving. Now I need to get the books.

Josh and Nathan, the two from the left.

After dinner, the boys tried to find something fun to watch on T.V. Well we did find something new, but it was quite by accident. Nathan and Josh were arguing over what they wanted to watch and each had a death grip on the remote. By the time I wrestled the remote from their hands, we had pulled up, The Cutting Edge on demand. I then scanned down to the sci-fi section of the Cutting Edge and pulled up a show called Mercury Men.
This show is a hoot. We loved it. It’s a throwback to the old black and white cliffhangers they had in the 50’s, where you had to tune in each week to find out if the hero made out it alive. This show was created and directed by the very talented Chris Preksta

and you can find it on Syfy.com, Hulu, or itunes. You can also go to the site http://www.mercuryseries.com
Each episode is around ten minutes and there are ten episodes. The boys and I watched all ten and we want to see more episodes. There are two main characters, Edward Borman played by Mark Tierno and Captain Jack Yaeger, played by Curt Wootton.

You need to see this for yourself, we loved it.

My Ghost Hunting group and I found a new adventure to go on and it’s right over the bridge in Philly. A friend from my writer’s group suggested that we would like this. Grim Philly Twilight tour is located at 6th and Market and right now they are offering two tours. One is the Vampires, Sex and Ghosts tour, which my friends and I will be going to in a few weeks and the second is the Blood and Beer, a Cemetery, serial killers and beer tour. University professor, Joe Wojie, leads both tours. Go to Grimphilly.com, and go on your own adventure.
See you next weekend with a new addition to my Lilith’s Escape series and what other new adventures I tumbled into.

Busy Weekend

This past Saturday night, one of my ghost hunting friends and I went to the monthly event at Dorian's Parlor. I was excited to be wearing my new Victorian steampunk outfit and also to observe the other well dressed guests. I even had my persona picked out. I went as Emele Watson, private detective and zombie slayer.

My friend Rita was a German detective and zombie slayer named Gretchen. This was her first trip into the world of steampunk and although she was apprehensive at first, she relaxed as the night moved on and I think she and the other ghost hunters will be attending Dorian's Event next month.

On Sunday, after meeting with the South Jersey's Writer's Group for a blog tune up, I took one of the teenage grandsons to my first meeting with the Zombie Squad. This is a great group which was featured on the History 2 Channel. Their slogan, "We make dead things, deader," might confuse people to their real purpose, but what they're really about is getting your every day citizen prepared for any type of disaster.

I had the honor of having a late lunch with ZSC 021, a group of intelligent and concerned citizens who want to help others prepare for the worse case scenario, any long term disaster can bring. I was at first, a little nervous about attending this meeting and wondered what I would be able to contribute in the form of helpful information, to the group. But their easy welcoming ways, put me immediately at ease and my grandson, Joshua ( one of the desperados from my other blogs) and I were made to feel right at home.

I'm looking to meet again with the group and Joshua has already told me, he wants to tag along. I'll keep everyone posted on further adventures.
