Episode Seventy-three of Lilith's Escape

                                                                   

“What the hell is your problem?” Edward shouted to the guards, who were pointing their weapons at him and Scouter. “Stand down!” he ordered, hoping to bluff his way out of a deadly situation.

“Sir, you haven’t gone through decon, and I can’t let you pass until you do,” the admitting guard replied, keeping his gun aimed at Edward.

“Move aside, soldier,” Edward replied. He had seen the hesitation on the young soldier’s part; the quick blink of the eyes; the weapon being slightly lowered and then quickly raised. Edward stood his ground; the bluff working. “I said, move aside!” The soldiers lowered their weapons and stood aside for him to pass.

                                                                      

“You, come with me!” Edward ordered one of the guards after he was handed back his credentials. Edward needed someone to lead him around the prison. They entered the prison and the guard led them to the main office, where the warden was busy eating his lunch.

“How did you escape?” the warden asked while chewing his food.

“Are you writing a book?” Edward answered the warden’s question with a sarcastic one of his own. “I need to go over your prisoner list, and I need this man put in a cell.” Edward pointed to Scouter.

“We’re getting ready to turn a few more prisoners and then release them. Do you want this prisoner included with that batch?” the warden asked Edward.

                                                                  

“No, this man helped me escape. No one is to touch him. Just put him in a cell and get him something to eat.” After the warden instructed the guard, who had accompanied Edward to his office, to lock up Scouter, and after the guard and prisoner left the room. Edward said, “Before you send out the next batch, let me see who’s on the list.”

                                                                        

“What’s the big interest? The list hasn’t changed that much since you’ve seen it last,” the warden replied, wiping the ketchup from his lips. But, when Edward didn’t reply, the warden let out a sigh and pulled out the files with the names of all the prisoners and their locations.

“Is this everything?” Edward asked. When the warden nodded, Edward quickly grabbed hold of the man’s head and twisted.

                                                                       

After dragging the body to the closet, Edward shoved the man inside.

Elysium, Science Fiction for Adults

                                                                

This year, I was fortunate to see two great science fiction movies: Oblivion with Tom Cruise and Elysium starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster. It’s about time that we’re getting movies with good acting and story lines from Hollywood.
                                                                       

Elysium

Elysium is a frightening vision of earth’s future in the year 2154. But, it’s a future where the classes are severely divided; almost like what’s happening now; the haves and the have not’s. The rich people of earth have the means to relocate to a space station that includes a large city, suburb and parks. They have no disease because they have the technology to manipulate the genetic make-up of Elysium’s citizens and erase all diseases. I wonder if they have something for age spots; one can only dream. The citizens of Elysium have it easy and life is one big party where the smallest chore is handled by robots.

                                                                  

Jodi Foster (extremely talented actress) plays Jessica Delacourt the head of Elysium's Security. Let me tell you right up front that she’s a real bitch when it comes to keeping the filthy poor from reaching her floating Shangri-La. She cold heartedly blows up any ships filled with desperate immigrants. The poor citizens on Earth only want proper health care (like what’s happening now in this country) but, the filthy rich aren't interested in sharing their technology.
                                                                             

 When the weapons on the floating space colony fail to shoot down an approaching unscheduled ship, Jessica has Kruger, (Sharlto Copley)  a sadistic bastard, finish the job with  ground to air missiles. By the way, Sharlto Copley also starred in District 9 as Wikus Van De Merwe. I'm waiting for the sequel to this movie!

                                                                         

Earth

What do the poor have? Nothing! Earth has been polluted beyond recognition and disease is rampant. The cities and suburbs remind you of the movie, District 9, in which the alien immigrants were forced to live in abject poverty. The hopelessness of the survivors on future earth, hits the viewer like a two by four plank to the face. The viewer is forced to identify with the present day suffering of the poor masses living in India and Africa, and yes, even in this country. If you watched District 9, there is a common thread between the two movies, but I’ll cover this in the conclusion.

                                                                       

 Matt Damon plays Matt, an orphan raised by kindly nuns. Matt gets into lots of trouble but the nuns like him; they think him special. His goal from a young age was to get the chance to live on Elysium. Matt works in a factory that makes the robots for Elysium, but under brutal working conditions. Matt is exposed to dangerous radiation and only has five days to live. His only chance of survival is to get to Elysium.
                                                                              

With the help of a tech savvy smuggler, Spider (Wagner Moura), Matt is fitted with an exoskeleton and must save himself and the daughter of his childhood sweetie. Does he succeed? You need to watch the movie and believe me, you won’t be disappointed.

Conclusion

Neil Blomkamp wrote, co-produced and directed Elysium with the same precision in story telling that he did with District 9. Blomkamp’s stories can stand alone; without the overuse of special effects that I found so disappointing in this year’s Superman. I can identify with Blomkamp's stories, be it alien immigrants or wealthy people content with making money from the crushed and broken bodies of the poor. This is a good movie and there is a message; we may look up and yearn to go to the stars, but Earth is a gem in its own right.
                                                                             

Boys, Bugs, and Bug Fest at The Academy of Natural Science

On Sunday, 8/11/2013, I headed over to the Academy of Natural Sciences with two of the desperadoes to have fun at the Academy’s yearly big crawling Bug Fest. It was a lot of fun.

                                                                        

We visited the changing exhibit hall where Joshua, Nathan and I made believe we were captured fireflies.

                                                                     

 

Then we spent the day checking out all the amazing insects that the Academy had shipped in for this special day.

                                                                         

The highlight of the boys’ day was the cooking show in the auditorium. There were two featured chefs: Cajun Chef Zack Lemann and Chef Chuck Ziccardi of Drexel University of Culinary Arts. They were doing an on-stage cook-off with yummy bug recipes. They asked for volunteers and Nathan volunteered.

The selected recipes for this contest would include dragonflies, wax worms, and cicadas; yummy right?

                                                                         

                                                                      

Karen Verderame and Michael Kaczmarczik along with Jill Sybesma were busy collecting questions from the audience for the chefs to answer while they prepared the food to be judged.

When the finale moment arrived for Nathan to judge the food, I was a bit worried that he would chicken out,

but he not only wolfed down every sample, but he wanted more. The other two contestants were just as pleased with the food. Chef Chuck won the cook-off and I might be calling him, soon; very soon. My grandson Nathan liked the bug polenta and the wax worm hushpuppies so much, he wants more! He wants me to learn how to make them.

It might not be a bad idea to learn how to cook those tasty bug meals; you know, in case of a zombie apocalypse. We won’t ever need to worry about running out of food, and there are plenty of bugs for everyone! bon appetite

                                                                     

                               

The White Queen

                                                                  

                                                             

Okay, my little history buffs, the Starz channel is now featuring The White Queen and it will be premiering tonight, August 10^th at 8 p.m.. The show is based on the Philippa Gregory novel The Cousins’ War. The action is connected to the War of the Roses; the war between the House of York (The White Rose) and the House of Lancaster (The Red Rose).

                                                                         

For those of you who were diehard fans of The Tudors, than you’re going to enjoy this show, too.

This show follows the war between followers of King Henry and King Edward, but the spotlight is really on the women behind or on the throne:  Elizabeth Woodville played by Rebecca Ferguson , Margaret Beaufort played by  Amanda Hale,  and Anne Neville played by Faye Marsay.

                                                                   

Max Irons who plays Edward IV falls in love with and secretly marries Elizabeth Woodville ( a widow with two young sons)

                                                                                   

This action not only pisses off his right hand man Richard Neville (James Frain) the Earl of Warwick, but Edward’s mother.

                                                                     

I’m excited to see James Frain in this show. He’s a joy to watch; the perfect bad guy; just like his role as Franklin Mott in True Blood.

I'm interested in ghost hunting. Along with my friends, Rita and Jean, I've been on many adventures and because all three of us are sensitive, we've encountered many spirits; some nice and some not. Episode Seventy-two of Lilith's Escape

                                                                   

The jeep holding Lieutenant Scott, Edward, Scouter and three other soldiers pulled through the gates of the naval base. Edward and Scott were arguing on the ride over, but Edward won and Scouter would be spared the injection. Edward would be the one to interrogate this prisoner.

“It looks like you were knocked around some. Do you need to stop at the base hospital?” Lt. Scott asked Edward aka Brandish.

“No, I’m fine. Just let me take care of my prisoner,” Edward replied. He was hoping to get inside the holding cells and find Rita’s husband and Lazarus.

                                                                    

After the jeep dropped Edward and Scouter off at the prison, it took off, heading towards the Command Center. “You think they bought our story?” Scouter asked.

 “I’m not sure, but we'll soon find out,” Edward said, as the guard at the prison gate ordered them to stop.

                                                                         

“Your credentials, please,” the armed guard said, putting out his hand. Edward handed over his identification and waited.

                                                                            

“There seems to be a problem,” the guard said. Before Edward could reply, two more guards showed up with their weapons drawn.
This was definitely not part of the plan.
